چکیده

Objectives: To study cervical colonization in women with premature rupture of membranes and the influence of infection on preterm newborns. Methods: Prospective analysis. Results: 167 (38.66%) from 432 preterm deliveries were complicated with premature prelabour rupture of the membranes (PPROM). Organisms which induce chorioamnionitis and newborns infections mostly belong to group B streptococci (GBS), E. Coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In most cases of congenital neonatal sepsis cases bacteriological cultures from the mother had been negative. Documented sepsis during 72 hours of life was detected in 13.17% of our patients and 55.8% of women received antibiotics. The risk of neonatal mortality rises proportionally and significantly in relation to low birth weight in PRM cases. Conclusions: Further randomised trials with more sensitive methods of bacterial investigation should be conducted in order to reduce the incidence of preterm deliveries and newborn early infection.

Maternal Recto-Vaginal Organisms and Surface Skin Colonization in Infants

Background: Early-onset sepsis is a common cause of neonatal mortality and mainly occurs due to the colonized microorganisms in the maternal recto-vaginal area. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of maternal risk factors on recto-vaginal colonization and transmission rate of micro-flora from mothers to infants. Methods: Upon admission, two samples were obtained from the distal thi...

Evaluation of antibacterialic activity of methanol extracts of Francoeuria Undulata in two harvest times on several aerobic bacteria causing vaginal infections

Background & Aim:Vaginal disease has always been a great concern of women. Medicinal plants as natural resources with fewer side effects can effectively treat these infections given the diversity of these infections, resistance to antibiotics and side effects of existing drugs. The present study aimed to compare antimicrobial effects of methanol extract of Francoeuria Undul...

New Views on Cesarean Section, its Possible Complications and Long-Term Consequences for Children’s Health

Historical developments and advancements in cesarean section techniques and logistics have reduced the maternal and neonatal risks associated with the procedure, while increasing the number of operatively completed pregnancies for medically unjustifiable reasons. The uncritical attitude towards cesarean section and the fast emergence of 'modern' diseases such as obesity at a young age, asthma, ...
